Akrotiri School is idyllically set on the RAF base on the Akrotiri peninsula on the island of Cyprus. The school is one of the largest in the family of MOD Schools around the world who provide the education and social stability for the children of service families and the civilian component of British Forces overseas. The school is one of three in the Western Sovereign Base Area (WSBA) – one other large primary school and the secondary school – both in nearby Episkopi.
There are also three smaller schools in the Eastern Sovereign Base Area (ESBA) and together the six schools form the Cyprus consortium.
The school is extremely well resourced and well staffed. All teachers employed at our school hold a UK teaching degree.
The school prides itself on, and is recognised for being at the very heart of the RAF and civilian station community. The SGC play a vital role – with the Station Commander as chair – a partnership which together with the close liaison with parents has been at the centre of the school’s ethos for many years.
Children succeed at Akrotiri as we are committed to getting it right for children both socially and academically. The school has created a curriculum which supports and extends children’s learning in its many forms. Children with special needs are especially well supported and make very good progress.
We make the most of the many host nation opportunities that Cyprus has to offer to make sure that the children who come here – for however short a time – have an experience to remember and treasure. On the sports front the school excels in all inter-school competitions and academically, SATs results are always above average.
Children leave Akrotiri School equipped with the social and educational skills necessary to make them both successful learners and communicators.
Akrotiri School is situated close to the main shopping centre on RAF Akrotiri, not far from the Cost Cutters store and bank, and in a very central position.
How to find us:
From the Outer Main Gate/Piquet Post
Proceed until you reach the roundabout, take the third exit, turn right at the SSVC Astra Cinema, pass the stadium on your right and turn right into the car park, opposite the hair dresser and florist.
From the Air Terminal
Follow the station exit signs until you reach the roundabout and take the second exit. Turn right at the SSVC Astra Cinema, pass the stadium on your right and turn right into the car park, opposite the hair dresser and florist.
From the Airmen’s Married Quarters
Head down towards Forces Stores and pass the Families’ Office on your left. Immediately to the left is the entrance to Foundation Stage (staff and disabled access only). Continue for another 150 metres – the staff car park entrance is on the left followed by the entrance to a car park for parents, also on the left.
From the Officers Married Quarters
Head for Cost Cutters and continue until you reach the T junction. Turn left and take the first right turning into the car park. Alternatively: head for Cost Cutters and continue until you reach the T junction. Turn right towards the cinema and take the next left turn into the main car park for parents.
The car park to the front of school and the side of Foundation are for staff parking only.
No married quarters are more than 1500 metres away from school.
