Working here

We are extremely lucky at Akrotiri School as we work with amazing children. Our children demonstrate a love for learning and are always polite, energetic, enthusiastic and happy. It is a pleasure to come to school each day! In our unique location we are well resourced both with staffing and physical resources. We have committed staff and parents and a supportive governance committee. If you are interested in teaching at our school our positions are advertised in the overseas section on The TES Online.

Supply teaching

If you are being posted to Cyprus and you have qualified teacher status you may be able to join our supply pool of teachers. Please look for current vacancies on the SBAA vacancy page, where supply positions will be advertised.

Learning Support Assistants

We have over 30 learning support positions at our school. They are extremely important members of our team and work alongside the class teachers, supporting pupils with their learning. Full training is provided including professional qualifications. If you are interested in becoming an LSA during your partner’s tour in Cyprus, please contact our school office.

Parents are welcome to come in to help in numerous ways, all of which we really appreciate. If you would like to do this please let us know by filling in our Volunteer Register form which is available from the School Office. Security clearance is required for regular volunteers, this can be arranged by the School Office staff.

We do value all the help we get and it does give you the opportunity to understand more about the school your child is attending. We do try to place parent helpers in classes away from their children, often in a parallel class, because of the distraction factor!

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

The Parent Teacher Association believe that we can be an integral part of the school community. Over the years we have raised thousands of pounds, this money has been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education experience and the school facilities.

We believe that the PTA are about much more than simply fundraising. We exists to provide closer links between home and school and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal.

All parents and members of the local community are encouraged to get involved, even if they only have a small amount of time available. Donations from Parents & Friends are extremely important to us; you can donate time, cakes, items for sale, raffle prizes or by offering up your services & skills.

We are a small and friendly team and we try to meet on a regular basis, meeting dates are posted in the School Headlines newsletter and will be found on the School’s new website. You will find our requests for support on the newsletter as well as information on fundraising events that are happening. Posters & PTA information can also be found on the School notice board (which is positioned in the Year One/Two court yard).

We hold several events throughout the year ranging from Christmas Fayres, Spring Fayres, School Discos; Mother and Father’s Day wrapping and Quiz and Curry nights. We are always open to new ideas & would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions.

In the last two years we have refurbished the ‘Golden Rooms’ and donated Playtime Equipment that is used by the school during their Golden time; we have also provided playtime equipment and shade for the Foundation School play area. We always endeavour to spend the funds in ways that will benefit all the children across all areas of the school and curriculum.

If you would like to be more involved and help out at events or simply to give us your ideas for fundraising events, please contact us by leaving a message with the School Office or by getting in touch via Facebook:  Akrotiri School PTA.
